Some info about this gun

I was thinking much like centennialdawg when you showed the picture yesterday. I still haven't figured it out completely yet though.

Bruce has seen it and doesn't have a clue either. I even sento some pics to my cousin outside of DC who is a retired vice cop for DC police and has alot of friends that are high up in the FDA and he didn't know anything about it either. He had one guy that would know, it was his job for the FDA to know these things but just before he got the pics he was in a bad car accident. I have it posted on the guns and ammo site but nothing yet.

well since i was a smart alec i will tell you this, it looks like a lee-enfield british rifle. which means it could be south african, british, any of the countries that used british rifles during world war 1. I would look it up find a lee-enfield historical site and see what you can find. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] good luck.

Sorry, but it is nothing like a Lee-Enfield. I should know as I own one in .303.
My guess is a foreign make, as I've not seen anything in past American historical arms that look anything like it. Definitely a "trap-door" design, but its not like any Springfields I've ever seen either (I also once owned a 45-70 Springfield).
Something that interesting might be worth a letter with accompanying photos to the NRA's magazine, "American Rifleman". Their staff is quite knowledgeable when it comes to odd finds in the firearms world. I'll do some more research in my own books to see if I come up with anything.

You know I get American Rifleman every month and I never even though about doing that (man do I feel dumb [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]).
